2021 Nissan Rogue vs. 2021 Mazda CX-5 – The Understated Underdogs
Posted on March 12, 2021
It can be difficult to find the right compact crossover in a class filled with names such as Honda, Toyota, Volkswagen, and Ford. However, two underdogs of the class are redesigned and ready to rumble: the 2021 Nissan Rogue and the 2021 Mazda CX-5. With so many similar features, it is difficult to differentiate between the two.
2021 Nissan Rogue
The Automobile Journalists Association of Canada named the 2021 Nissan Rogue the Best Mid-Size Utility Vehicle in Canada, and there is not much higher praise than that. The start of a new generation for Nissan, the 2021 Rogue was completely redesigned inside and out with new exterior and interior styling, upgraded technology, and a more powerful engine. Starting at $28,498, Nissan offers the 2021 Rogue in three model configurations, which include standard features such as an 8-inch touchscreen NissanConnect multimedia system, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, and 17-inch wheels.
For safety, Nissan provides many standard driver-assist features, such as automated emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane departure warning, rear cross-traffic alert, and blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert.
2021 Mazda CX-5
Mazda gets a lot right in its classy CX-5 SUV, but one thing it does better than most competitors is offer variety. The CX-5 is offered in six trim levels across Canada. Mazda offers a lot of standard features, starting with the base level GX trim and its price point of $28,500. It is powered by a 187-hp four-cylinder engine but offers a 250-hp turbocharged version as an upgrade; both are paired with a six-speed automatic transmission.
The 2021 Mazda CX-5 includes many standard features, even on its base model, including heated front seats, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity, 8-inch touchscreen display with Mazda Connect, and driver-assist features such as smart city brake support, advanced blindspot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and a rearview camera.
Features
There is a lot to like about the 2021 Mazda CX-5, but it is easy to see in a head-to-head comparison that the 2021 Nissan Rogue offers more–especially in terms of safety features and cargo capacity. Both vehicles might be considered compact crossovers, but the Rogue offers the space that many drivers want and need.
