A New Third-Generation Frontier - Going Boldly Where Other Mid-Size Pickup Trucks Do Not Go

After more than 15 years, Nissan has finally redesigned its mid-size Frontier pickup truck, introducing the third-generation for the 2022 model year. While the frame remains the same, everything else about the truck has been upgraded and modernized.

Overview

The Nissan logo and the Frontier nameplate are the only indicators that the 2022 Nissan Frontier is the same mid-size pickup truck that has been rolling around Kanata for decades. This new-and-improved version is a modern mid-size pickup truck that offers popular technology inside and bold bodywork outside, including a futuristic face and blistered fenders.

What's New for 2022

Almost everything about the 2022 Nissan Frontier is new. While it is still built on a frame that dates back to the early 2000s, everything else has been improved from the ground up, including the suspension, body, cabin environment, technology, and more.

Models and Pricing

Starting at $39,998, the 2022 Nissan Frontier is offered in five model varieties in Kanata and across Canada: S, SV, SV Convenience, SV Sport, and Pro-4X. The base model S is only available in a King Cab configuration with a long bed (1,861mm), but it also includes an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay, intelligent cruise control, and automatic intelligent emergency braking with pedestrian detection.

The best value for drivers lies in the SV trim level, which has the best mix of standard features and value. The SV trim adds heated front seats and steering wheel, dual-zone automatic temperature control, and remote engine start system.

Performance

Nissan's new naturally aspirated 3.8-litre V6 engine is found on all models of the 2022 Frontier. It delivers 310 horsepower and 281 lb-ft of torque. With more than enough power for this mid-size pickup truck, it offers quick and direct steering, smooth handling, and a composed ride.

Drivers that want more off-road readiness should get the Pro-4X model, which adds all-terrain tires, off-road performance shock absorbers, underbody skid plates, and an electronic locking rear differential. When properly equipped, the 2022 Nissan Frontier can tow up to 2,943 kg.

Design

Both the exterior and interior received big improvements for the 2022 model year. The Frontier now features soft-touch surfaces and modern trim pieces. Analog gauges were replaced by a large 7.0-inch colour display, and other contemporary features were added.

Infotainment

The Frontier features a standard 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system on all models except the Pro-4X, which upgrades the system to the optional 9.0-inch display. Standard connectivity features include Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and several charging outlets, including a USB-C port.

Safety

Nissan looks out for its drivers with some of the best safety and driver-assist features available among automobile manufacturers. The all-new 2022 Frontier features Nissan's Safety Shield 360, which includes such cutting-edge technologies as intelligent emergency braking with pedestrian detection, rear automatic braking, blind spot warning, rear cross traffic alert, lane departure warning, and high beam assist.
