2022 Nissan Rogue vs 2022 Toyota Rav4

2022 Nissan Rogue vs 2022 Toyota Rav4

There’s no shortage of compact crossover SUVs available to Canadian buyers, but the Nissan Rogue has consistently topped the best-seller lists thanks to its enviable combination of comfort, efficiency, and affordability. Will the new 2022 Nissan Rogue continue the lineup’s success? To find out, we’ve put it up against the competing Toyota Rav4, and here’s what happened.

Powertrain Features

Powertrain Features

Both cars offer a similar output in their standard versions, with the Rogue’s 2.5L engine making 181 horsepower and the Rav4’s 2.5L model making 184 hp. However, the powertrains have some significant differences beyond that.

The Rogue is equipped with a continuously variable transmission (CVT) for ultra-smooth shifting at all speeds. By contrast, the Rav4 is fitted with an eight-speed automatic, with the choice between the two systems largely down to personal taste.

Drive Modes and Handling

A more concrete advantage that the Rogue holds is the greater number of drive modes that the transmission offers. Choose the all-wheel-drive version of the Rogue and you can optimize the output and traction with five different modes of Sport, Standard, Eco, Off-Road, and Snow. And while the Rav4 also has the drive modes facility, there are only three options of Sport, Eco, and Normal. If you expect to be driving in tough conditions for part of the year, the Rogue offers a more dependable setup.

Passenger Space Comparison

The Rogue features a substantially more spacious cabin, making for greater comfort for both passengers and driver. While the Rav4 has a front-row headroom of just 95.8cm, the Rogue boasts a much more generous 104.9cm. It’s a similar story with legroom, where the Rogue provides 105.4cm against the Toyota’s slightly more cramped 104cm.

Cargo Capacity and Storage

As for cargo space, the Rogue is the outright winner when the seats are folded flat, offering up to 2,098L to store your stuff, while the Rav4 manages a much less roomy 1,976L. However, the tables are somewhat turned when the second row is placed upright. In this case the Rogue offers a generous 1,033L of cargo space, but the Toyota edges into the lead with 1,064L.
